DENVER, CO | Feb. 2017 — Better Business Bureau Serving Denver/Boulder has selected Warren Village as Charity of the Month for February, 2017.
For over four decades Warren Village has improved the quality of life for more than 4,500 families. Located in the Capitol Hill neighborhood in Denver, Warren Village is a unique family community nationally recognized for its programs to help motivate low-income, single-parent families’ discover solutions for the challenges of family poverty and homelessness.
Through its holistic service model that combines safe affordable housing, family advocacy/support service, early learning instruction/care, and education guidance/workforce development combined onto one campus, Warren Village has helped transform the lives of generations of families. Single parents living at Warren Village are dedicated to improving their lives and creating a better future for their children and themselves.
Warren Village champions a two-generation approach by providing opportunities for and meeting the needs of children and their parents together. This two-generation approach empowers families to access education and build upon their economic assets and social capitol with an end goal of creating long-term security and self-sufficiency for themselves and their families. Warren Village also places a strong emphasis on the health and well-being of their residents, believing that lasting and long-term personal and economic self-sufficiency requires both a healthy mind and body.
“We are excited to be building upon our existing two-generation model with the addition of our Wellness Initiative,” said Ethan Hemming, Warren Village President & CEO. “We’ve invited Joan Lunden to help launch this initiative at our ‘Celebrating Wellness’ All Star Luncheon on February 22. The Wellness Initiative will provide new supports aimed at empowering individuals to tackle the life changing work in front of them at Warren Village. “
In 2016, Warren Village housed 150 families, provided family services to 390 children and parents, and enriched the lives of 158 children through The Greta Horwitz Learning Center. 76% of Warren Village residents were engaged in full-time work or school, 78% had a positive change in earned income, 94% participated in career exploration, financial literacy and next-step housing guidance, and 86% of exiting residents found permanent housing.
Through the BBB Cares Committee, BBB staff will be getting involved at Warren Village and you can too. Each year more than 1,500 volunteers donate their time to various activities at Warren Village, such as class facilitation, child care, family or community night hosting, tutoring, activities leadership, special event support, and more.
