GOTR Warren Village team

(November 2, 2013) – Girls on the Run and Warren Village Team Up to Help Girls in Poverty Develop a Healthy Self-Image. These are the core values of the Girls on the Run organization:

  • Embrace our differences and find strength in our connectedness.
  • Express joy, optimism and gratitude through our words, thoughts and actions.
  • Nurture our physical, emotional and spiritual health.
  • Lead with an open heart and assume positive intent.
  • Stand up for ourselves and others.

These messages are shared with girls during those awkward middle school years through a program that is designed to help them overcome their insecurities and inspire them to develop a healthy lifestyle. The team of girls who live at Warren Village are discovering these positive values through the power of running.

What: A team of girls from Warren Village will discover improved self-esteem and confidence as they complete a practice 5K in preparation for the Great Candy Run. The girls have been training for 10 weeks with volunteer coach Mari Hodge, a teacher in the Warren Village Learning Center. The practice run on Tuesday, November 5th will be a great chance to capture video and creates the perfect opportunity for a follow up story on race day. The team from Warren Village will join 200 other Girls on the Run teams on Sunday, November 10th for the 5K Great Candy Run in Washington Park.

When: Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at 5:30 PM

Where: 1323 Gilpin St., Denver, CO 80218 across from Cheeseman Park
