Local Developers Make Substantial Donation to Warren Village
The local real estate development companies donated a 9,000-sq-ft building and land on the Aria Denver campus in northwest Denver that currently houses the Warren Village First Step Program. The donation, valued at just over $1.6M, will allow Warren Village to continue to operate its transitional housing and family advocacy program at this location for many years to come.
Warren Village is focused on helping low-income, single-parent families make the journey from poverty to self-sufficiency and has served nearly 4,800 children and parents since 1974. The First Step program has been on the Aria Denver campus since 2007 when the property was owned by the Sisters of St. Francis and operated as the Marycrest Convent.
The Warren Village First Step program provides a one-year transitional, communal living program for 13 single mothers and their children, which is different than the organization’s Cheesman Park-based program focused on 2-3 years of independent living for up to 92 low-income, single-parent families with onsite early education and child care.
“The First Step program is an integral part of the Aria Denver community and our commitment to create and preserve a mixed income neighborhood. We value our relationship with Warren Village and believe that by donating the property to them, they will be in the best position to continue the First Step program at Aria,” said Susan Powers, president of Urban Ventures.
When completely built out in the next few years, Aria Denver will include 485 residential units, of which 40 percent are affordable. This commitment by a private developer to offer housing to address the full continuum of needs – from housing for homeless to market rate housing – is unusual and is a reflection of the values of both Urban Ventures and Perry Rose.
