About Us
Warren Village is a Colorado nonprofit serving unhoused and unstably housed low-income single-parent families in the Denver area. We provide families with the space and resources to achieve economic mobility and navigate and disrupt systems of poverty. Warren Village utilizes a 2Gen approach to empower both parents and their children through life skills classes, a high-quality Early Learning Center, education and career support, and resource navigation. Warren Village currently serves families at three locations: our main building on Gilpin; Ivy Crossing Apartments, a satellite location in partnership with FCP/BMC Investments that provides resources to residents who live there; and First Step, a residential communal living space for teen mothers and their children attending high school at Florence Crittenton Services.
All of Warren Village’s single parent families experience houselessness or housing instability prior to their stay with us.
Warren Village is the nationally recognized leader for moving people from poverty toward self-sufficiency.
We are committed to diversity in all its forms and value individual perspectives and contributions. We create an environment of inclusiveness in which all feel valued and heard.
Ethan Hemming
Ethan Hemming joined Warren Village as the President and CEO in May of 2016. Under Ethan’s leadership, the organization has identified robust strategic goals and prioritized providing continuously improving services to Warren Village participants. New and expanded corporate and agency partnerships is a keen focus for Warren Village and a part of their strategic growth plans. Warren Village recently launched service partnerships with Ivy Crossing Apartments and Florence Crittenton Services to serve more community members in need. The development of a third campus in southwest Denver in partnership with the Denver Housing Authority is the organization’s next step on its path to grow its service profile in Denver.
Prior to Warren Village, Ethan served for more than four years as Executive Director at the Colorado Charter School Institute (CSI). Under Ethan’s leadership, CSI transformed its business and authorizing practices, grew its portfolio by 50% (from 10,000 to 15,000 students), and maintained a relentless focus on service to at-risk students. Leading up to CSI, Hemming held several leadership positions at Denver Public Schools (DPS). His service within DPS included charter school authorization, demographic planning efforts, and the district’s homeless education program. His volunteer work has included board service at GALS Charter School and Samaritan House Shelter.
Ethan holds a Bachelor’s degree from Colorado College and a Master’s from Colorado State University. In his spare time, Ethan enjoys downhill mountain biking, hiking, and camping with his wife Nicole and their two children.

Mark Waddell
Located in Denver’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, Warren Village was established in 1974 when citizens and business professionals saw an influx in the number of single-parent families struggling to subsist. These community members wanted to build a program that would give these families a chance at economic independence.
One of those community members was Dr. Myron Waddell, a physician who worked in Denver’s inner city during the 1960s. Along with others in the community, he conceived Warren Village after observing an increasing number of single-parent families and accompanying high rates of poverty, family violence and housing instability. An active member of Warren United Methodist Church, Dr. Waddell envisioned an “intentional community” of single-parent families who could live in a safe and decent temporary home while working toward self-sufficiency. Over a period of nearly ten years, Warren Church bought eight plots of land, razed the existing buildings, and donated the land for the creation of an urban village – Warren Village.
Warren Village is comprised of passionately committed individuals who work to empower low-income, single-parent families to make the journey from poverty to economic mobility.
We welcome creative, critical thinkers who are not restricted by convention. We welcome candidates who bring ideas to the table, energy to the team, and a sense of humor. We welcome team players who want to change the world, starting at Warren Village.
Warren Village recognizes that our backgrounds are broad and our talents are many, from different lived experiences. We value and leverage our differences to encompass and reflect the communities we serve. We align our policies, practices and resources so that people of all races, cultures, identities and socioeconomic status may feel valued and respected.
