Hannah’s Story

At the tender age of seventeen, young Hannah knew she had some difficult obstacles to overcome. Therefore, she decided to grab life by the horns. Hannah moved from Virginia to Colorado as a teenager and became pregnant with her daughter Cora. When she was eight month pregnant Hannah, wisely and quickly came up with the plan of action, and left her abusive relationship behind. Even after the birth of her daughter, Hannah continued to make her education a priority and started college when her daughter was just six weeks old. Hannah was referred to Warren Village through another local non-profit, and it was here that Hannah and her daughter finally found the supportive home base they had needed.

With the encouragement and support of her family advocate, Hannah was able to continue her studies, as well as care for baby Cora who was diagnosed with hip dysplasia and later Celiac Disease. “Being a single mom is difficult, and being the sole provider is not impossible, but it is very hard. Warren Village has given me a safe place to raise my daughter as we continue to learn how to cope with Cora’s diagnoses.” Hannah says that her advocate and the whole Warren Village community go above and beyond to make sure that Cora’s special dietary needs are accommodated for. She explains that there are always gluten-free treats available just for Cora during Family Night.

Since arriving at Warren Village, Hannah has completed an associate’s degree in paralegal studies, and is working her way towards obtaining her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. She spent the summer working as a paralegal, and knows that one day she wants to be an advocate for others. She has dreams of one day becoming a foster parent. “I want to provide a safe haven for someone, because I personally know what it feels like to not have a safe place to go.” For now Hannah and do have a safe place to call home and all the support they need to reach for the stars and continue on the road to self-sufficiency.
