Whitney’s Story

Whitney found out about Warren Village after a woman walked into her mom’s office holding a brochure. It was then that she decided it was just what she needed. Whitney had become a single mother at the age of 17. And then after being abandoned by the father of her second daughter in the middle of her pregnancy while living in another state, she returned to Colorado and applied for the Warren Village program. It was at Warren Village that she blossomed into the strong, self-sufficient mother she is today. At Warren Village, Whitney found a sense of community, supportive relationships with other residents, and a staff that she says is, “more like a second family.” By participating in the goal-setting programming offered at Warren Village, she felt empowered. Encouraged by close-knit friendships she developed while here, Whitney continued the journey of personal growth and independence. Whitney also enjoyed the Family Nights where her and her girls were able to spend time with other families and have fun. Whitney successfully graduated from the Warren Village program. Whitney’s daughters, Natalie and Kylee, attended the Learning Center and received many helpful services during their time there. Natalie received specialized on-site speech therapy, as well as cognitive development and learning support. Whitney shared that Natalie has a special connection to Warren Village and still considers it home, often asking if they can go visit their “other home”. Whitney’s youngest, Kylee, began attending the Learning Center when she was only 6 weeks old and has greatly benefitted from the stability the center provided her. Whitney says the teachers know both Kylee and Natalie very well. Whitney completed her Medical Clerical Certificate while at Warren Village and then received her CNA certification right after moving out. Whitney received a scholarship from Warren Village to complete her CNA education, saying, “even though I wasn’t a current resident, they still supported me.” Whitney is now working full-time for the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing. Her hopes and goals for her family are to buy a home in the next few years and to maintain the sense of home, friendship and family that she had experienced throughout her time at Warren Village.
