Volunteer Spotlight – Kelli Colter

(April 5, 2019) – Kelli is a wonderful and vibrant individual who is currently balancing work, volunteer service at Warren Village, and finishing her Masters of Public Administration at the University of Colorado. She learned about Warren Village through her MPA advisor after expressing her passion for volunteering with women and children in need. “I instantly knew I wanted to become involved after talking to the families and employees that make up the Warren Village team,” says Kelli.

Favorite Volunteer Moments

Since discovering Warren Village, Kelli has been a dedicated member of the Young Leaders group. The Young Leaders is a diverse group of individuals dedicated to giving back to the children and families of Warren Village, through energetically building community awareness, providing superior volunteer support, and creatively raising funds. Kelli’s favorite memories volunteering with Warren Village thus far are Family Night and Holiday Shop. “Last month, our Young Leaders group (that’s me on the right pictured above) hosted a March Madness themed Family Night for our residents, with basketball related games and delicious BBQ.” says Kelli. Holiday Shop, held this past December is when our resident families shop for holiday gifts donated by the community. “Both times there was good food, conversation, play time with the kids and families coming together.”

The Joy of Volunteering

As for her experience as a volunteer, Kelli shared, “I’ve learned how important it is to learn people’s stories and listen. My favorite moments at WV are interacting with the families who live there and hearing their stories, goals and dreams.” We are so grateful to Kelli and our cadre of Young Leaders. Their contributions are invaluable to the success of our mission in helping families make the journey from poverty to self-sufficiency.
