(October 10, 2019) – In an effort to bolster and strengthen our early education and child care supports, we are finding ways to provide our families with even more care and assistance as they embark on their journey towards self-sufficiency. One way we are doing this is through a collaborative partnership with Teach For America. We are excited to welcome Nora Silva who will be working at Warren Village full-time over the next school year as a teacher in our Head Start classroom. We wanted to learn more about Nora’s role and Teach For America:
WV: How long have you been involved with Teach For America (TFA)?
NS: I was accepted into the corps last fall and began my teaching commitment in August of this year.
WV: Have you taught at other learning centers? If so, where?
NS: I worked in a preschool classroom this past summer, and before that have worked with bilingual elementary students in a French school. I also have experience working with early elementary aged students in outdoor education settings. The Warren Village team has been so welcoming and supportive to me as I learn and grow as a new teacher.
WV: What attracted you to Warren Village?
NS: I was connected to Warren Village through TFA, and the more I learned about the Learning Center the more excited I was to join the team. Everyone here is passionate about young minds and I can see each staff member putting in such effort every day to best serve our students.
WV: Now that you’ve been here a few weeks, what do you enjoy most about your position here?
NS: It brings me so much joy to witness even the tiniest successes in my students’ lives and to see the ways that we have grown together in just a few weeks. The energy and curiosity that the children bring every day is contagious, and I am so lucky to be their teacher!
WV: How has TFA affected your life?
NS: Teach for America has imparted upon me a desire to bring inspiration, hope, and curiosity into every learning environment I enter into. Every student, regardless of identity, deserves access to an equitable educational journey, and I am so grateful to TFA for guiding me through this process of learning what that equity looks like in my classroom.
WV: Is there anything else you would like to share?
NS: I would just like to emphasize my gratitude to the Warren Village team. Everyone works so diligently every day to create the best learning environment possible for our students.

About Teach For America:
Teach For America works in partnership with urban and rural communities in more than 50 regions across the country to expand educational opportunity for children. We recruit and develop a diverse corps of outstanding leaders to make an initial two-year commitment to teach in high-need schools and become lifelong leaders in the effort to end educational inequity. In Colorado, our Early Childhood Education Initiative positions teachers in community-based early childhood programs for the greatest impact during critical stages of childhood development.
